New 45, Summer Shows & A New Album

We recently released a new 45 single entitled “Like Yesterday” on the always solid Colemine Records. Recorded at the legendary Killion Studios in Los Angeles, CA, the new track features members of the LA based soul/funk group Orgone. “Like Yesterday” is available on iTunes or grab the 45 from Colemine, Dustygroove.com or it’s available at all shows…Check out the 45 on YouTube.com as well!

There’s a new Monophonics album in the works and is being recorded at Orgone’s Killion Studios and our own place Soul Barracks in SF. Our sound is taking a new direction in the studio, we are embracing analog tape with an old school and simpler approach… steeped in the Psychedelic and Funky sounds of Sly & the Family Stone , Funkadelic & Norman Whitfield. We are so proud to finally release our new album, “Into The Infrasounds” to the public. We’ve waited a long time for everyone to hear it, so don’t hesitate to pick up a copy. We recommend downloading it from Bandcamp because more money goes into our pockets (which will pay for the next record!), but you can also download from iTunes or purchase the physical CD at CD Baby.

We are proud to feature Karl Denson on sax/flute (Greyboy Allstars), Mic Gillette on trombone/bass trombone (Tower Of Power) and many more special guests!

Tickets Now on Sale for Independent Show

The general public can now purchase tickets to our album release show (with Grillade and DJ Colt 45) at San Francisco’s The Independent on September 25. Tickets are just $12 in advance and available online here or at the venue box office (628 Divisadero). The box office is open Monday through Friday from 11am until 6pm and on all show nights from an hour before the doors open until at least 9:30PM. There is no service charge for tickets purchased at the box office.

New Album & Release Show Announced

We are so excited to announce the release of our new album on September 25, 2010. To celebrate, we will headline The Independent in San Francisco, along with our friends Grillade and DJ Colt 45.

As a special treat for our fans on the mailing list, we are offering a private pre-sale for a limited number of tickets beginning this Wednesday, July 28 at noon. Tickets for the general public will go on sale on Friday, July 30 at noon. You must be on our email list to receive the link and password. So get on the list now!

But wait – there’s more! Every single person who purchases a ticket in advance of the show will receive a free digital download of the new album before it’s available for sale anywhere. You will be able to purchase tickets online or at the Independent’s box office. (Just be sure to give the nice box office person your email address.)

More info about the new album – including some special guests that appear on it – will be announced in the days and weeks to come. But let’s be honest – isn’t a free copy of the album enough incentive to spend a measly $12 to see three of the hottest acts in the Bay?

Besides us, there will be two stages of great acts including The Pimps of Joytime, Sister Carol, El Radio Fantastique, Nicki Bluhm and the Gramblers, Dgiin, Bo Bo Tempo and more special guests to be announced. Voted “The Best Music Festival in Marin,” it features local oysters and plenty more quality local food, The Beer Garden, arts and crafts, a kids’ zone and much more.

Another Jazz Fest Review & Photos

The blog “Musical Ramblings” – operated by @fiberguy – recently reviewed our NOLA Jazz Fest show from the Blue Nile. He called the music “funky as all hell, richly adorned with horns and keys.” He also said, “I instantly fell in love with the groove and feel of the music and was particularly taken by the vocals of keyboard man Kelly Finnigan. A lot of the jazz-funk bands out there tend to focus on instrumental these days, and as such having a vocalist is, in itself, distinctive, but having one that ties back to blues as opposed to soul is even more unusual.” Read the full review here.
